Imagination + Obedience = Adventure
What if all that truly matters is doing God's ideas?
What if every single idea He gives is important, a clue that leads to the next point, like a real-time treasure map?
What if we lived in this sensitive state of being on adventure, waiting on God to lead and guide us with His goodness through everything, believing what He says so much we did it immediately without question or fear of the outcome?
Okay, I'll bring it down. First things first: How are we supposed to know what God actually says, with so many competing religions, "truths," and material things grabbing for our attention? How do we know?
Ask to know God's voice.
God wants to help you discern His voice above all others. Invite Him into your thoughts to be your guide and helper. He's honorable and also shows honor, He only comes into places where He is invited.
Tell every other voice to be silent now so you can hear God.
You have been given authority to do that; use it. Your commands over your life hold more weight than you know.
Read and understand the Sourcebook.
The Bible is historically accurate, verifiably proven by science and archaeology...and it just makes sense, once you read it, God provides us with a document that has been preserved throughout the ages; it is His story revealed. He is good, so He's not going to make us figure things out blindly. He tells us what is really going on. Your part is to read it, to understand.
Ask Him questions as you go. Believe it when you hear thoughts in answer come into your mind. That's Him, the author, talking to your soul. Accept the fact that God is communicating with you on the inside. This is normal in a relationship!
Imagery is the language of the Spirit.
God gave you an imagination for a reason. He wants to talk with you there!
Receive ideas that come to you to do good things—i.e. words to say, gifts to give, tasks to do, moves to make—that you know will lead good places. Test the ideas by asking, “Is that You?” and coming to a sense of peace about it. Everything that is from God will line up with the character that you’ve come to know in the Bible...especially His creative ideas.
Jesus modeled this reliance on God-given imaginations. In John 5:19 he says, “…the Son can do nothing by himself, he can only do what he sees his Father doing.” Again, in John 12:49 he says, “I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent me has given Me commandment, what to say, and what to speak.” If Jesus Christ Himself believed wholeheartedly in the inner intelligence Heaven was downloading and did it to the letter, how much more should we?
Be best friends with Holy Spirit.
He’s giving you the good ideas! It's His job, His joy and pleasure.
Jesus said, “He, the Spirit of truth, will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”
God sent His own is-ness, His very essence that makes Him God, to live inside all who receive Him. That means you. Praise God, that means me! Holy Spirit wants to be our permanent, indwelling leader who knows and tells us the future…the plans of God Himself…revealing it in tiny, doable pieces.
Our humble obedience to Holy Spirit unlocks the plans of God Most High on the earth. What an incredible way to work! Our choices matter!
Make it happen.
Do the idea. Though it’s out of the ordinary, out of your way, out of your comfort zone, may seem weird or intrusive or disruptive, do it.
This is how God works. He is the God of Something Else. This world tends to operate in same-old-same-old mindsets, but God is all about upward trajectory and that always requires a boost. So do whatever He puts in your mind and heart to do. This is how His plans come to pass on the earth!
See the glory of God.
When Lazarus died, Jesus showed up after a few days and told Martha to roll back the stone. Pretty out of the ordinary idea, yes? She objected because that would be desecrating the dead, there would be a stench and people would think she was crazy. Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you, if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (John 11:40)
Jesus saw the outcome his Father had in mind in His own mind. By this pre-event communication, this imagination, He knew God wanted to raise Lazarus back to life. He knew full well that God Most High, Creator of Adam who breathed His own breath into his freshly-formed clay body, had the power to breathe life into Lazarus' diseased, dead one too.
Do you believe that Jesus really lives in you--His hand in your glove? He knows the plans of the Father in your situation: He sees the plans of the Father in His own mind…and by His Spirit, He LIVES IN YOU. He is disclosing the plans of God on the palette of your imagination, which was created for this purpose. Will you believe? Will you do what He gives you to do? It is NOT just you imagining things—it is God Himself showing you what He has in mind. Will you do what you see? Will you make the moves to make it happen? Will you go against the conventional ways, the norms of culture, break away from the status quo so that the will of the Father can become actualized through you?
Jesus said that whoever “believes in Me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater works than these shall he do…and whatever you ask in My name, that I shall do, that my Father my be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:12-13)
The entire story of Earth is about bringing God glory.
In the end, we will see and know this beyond the shadow of all doubt. Everything is obvious in the spirit realm. Here, not so much, but you can bet that your life, my life, are means to one end: to display the glorious power of the One and Only Living God inside of a lesser, yielded being. That’s it. Anything else is folly. You will be ultimately defined by whether or not you believed God and loved Him enough to keep His commands.
Faith matters. The fire applied to every life when all's said and done will reveal moments of faith in God, and those are all that will remain.
Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments.”
Loving Jesus means more than keeping the Ten Commandments.
It also means doing what He shows you in your imagination, so He can reveal His glory through your life. This is good news! This is what makes Christian-living fun, like an adventure!
Too many people go through the motions of Christianity but do not know Jesus personally at all. That makes for dry, boring religion that doesn't satisfy...and that's why so many people turn to other things to try and tend their needs.
Keeping the commandments of Jesus means ongoing conversation with Him in your mind and heart...via Holy Spirit, this is possible. This is real relationship according to God's grand design. This is vibrant, abundant life...ever-changing, ever-exhilarating and ever-satisfying.
All you have to do is say YES.
This is love: laying down your life for your Friend. He laid down His life for you; it’s only right to lay aside your pride to say yes to the next step in the adventure, yes? Lay down how you've been doing life up to now. Say yes to the new and living way Holy Spirit wants to lead you into from now on.
Here’s to doing His ideas. I’m with you—I can’t wait to see what happens when the glorious power of God streams through our choices as we obey and let Him loose. Come on Lord, flood the earth! Adventure Ho!
