Flu-Fighting Elderberry Syrup Recipe

My 17 year old son who never complains has a headache, chills, body aches…and he is letting me take care of him.

Ugh. I know what this means.

Not good. He has a Shakespeare show this weekend, a higher-level course load in school and no time for sickness. Not to mention the fact that none of the rest of us want to get whatever he has. I don’t want to give it a name, but the title of this article shows what I secretly think.

Well, whatever it is, it isn’t welcome here! I’m breaking out the Elderberry Syrup to make it leave!

It’s the most powerful germ-busting stuff ever and tastes great. Taken at the beginning phases of illness, it cuts recovery time to a fourth, no lie.

I'm such a believer.. Some respiratory virus tried to get me a couple of weeks ago right before I was set to sing onstage for the first time in a long time, and I burst into action. Just a few swigs of this magical syrup alongside a dose of liquid colloidal silver (which I’ll feature in another post) and some oregano oil pills (yes, another post topic to come) TOTALLY KICKED IT—I never got sick and sang great without any respiratory trouble or yucky mucus at all. That’s a big deal!

Now, my dear husband who questions everything says anecdotal evidence isn’t enough, so here’s some science to back up my little personal-experience story:

Elderberries “have antiviral activity against influenza and herpes simplex.”

This, from a US National Library of Medicine report on influenza A and B- infected patients tested in a double-blind clinical test. People who took 15 mL of elderberry syrup four times a day recovered from their symptoms four days faster than those who took a placebo, on average, and didn’t need as many meds to relieve their pain.

The berries are rich in flavonoids and triturpenes.

These chemical compounds are:

Antioxidant (preventing damage to your body’s cells)

Anti-inflammatory (suppressive like a steroid)

Anti-viral (like a boss)

What does this mean for you?

  • Elderberries boost your immune system to red-alert

  • They calm and reduce swelling in mucous membranes

  • They inhibit and stop that virus that wants to take you over

Here’s the recipe:

3 cups filtered water

½ cup dried ripe elderberries (find them on Amazon.com)

1 cup raw honey

  • Boil water and berries; simmer for 30 minutes.

  • Remove from heat and mash berries to release all juices.

  • Strain into glass bowl through cheesecloth.

  • Wait 30 to cool, then stir in honey until dissolved.

  • Store in refrigerator 3-6 months.

Dosage:

3 tsp 4x per day while ill

1 tsp per day to boost immunity

So happy to know this plant exists in the world. Isn't God wonderful, to provide us with the tools we need to navigate safely through this fallen place? I love Him for that, and delight in finding the treasures He has hidden in our adventure.
